Musky Shop takes the time to vet all of our Guides and Captains. Each member of our team has the knowledge, skill, and determination to promote a safe and enjoyable fishing experience.

Steve Herbeck

Steve has been full time in the guiding, fishing , and tourist industry for 35 years. His clients have twice boated the largest musky caught in the the state of WI for the year 43#6oz. and 47#10oz .

 

He has also guided for 27 yrs on Eagle Lake Ont. boating hundreds of fish for his clients over 50" and 54 over 40#'s. Steve is internationally known and recognized as one of leading guides/ instructors, seminar speakers,writers, and is considered by many a legend in the industry. Steve is well known as an educating guide and going "the extra mile" for his guests.

 

Steve runs a fully rigged 21' 2100 Tuffy Osprey and furnishes all gear and lures if requested. When you step into Steve's boat you're in for an action packed day full of memories and a learning experience.

Matt Raley Musky Guide

Matt Raley

Matt Raley has been a full time fishing/hunting guide since 2008.  He is currently the 2020 Professional Musky Tournament Trail World Champion as well as holding the 2017 & 2019 titles.  Matt is considered to be the best musky tournament fishermen on the trail. Matt guides his clients out of a 2018 2310 Ranger bay boat with all the pro-gear you'll need to capture a monster!

Jim Schulta Musky Guide

Jim Schulta

Jim has been guiding for 40 years in Oneida and Vilas counties. He specializes in Walleye and Musky but will fish for other species i.e., bass, panfish, and northern. He runs a 2017 Ranger 621 FS with a 350 Mercury Verado and Lowrance electronics.

Al Frost

Al Frost has been a constant in the Minocqua Area for 30+ years.  He loves to hunt for the elusive Musky and makes this his top priority all year.  Al's grandfathers bait shop set him on the path to musky fishing and he welcomes all aboard his vessel.

He relies on the help of his Alumacraft Competition 185 and carries all the gear you need to be successful.

Steven Paul is USCG licensed Captain and owner/operator of Tennessee Musky Guide Service.  As well as the host of the Musky360 Podcast and co-owner of the Musky360 App.

As the holder of the current Tennessee State Record Musky, Steven uses his extensive knowledge, experience and know-how to provide you with the musky guide trip of

a lifetime, every time!

 

Based out Melton Hill Reservoir and it's connecting waterways in Oak Ridge, TN, Steven will introduce you to the preferred tactics, baits, and locations while in pursuit of some of the largest muskies in Tennessee. Despite being the premier Melton Hill Musky Fishing Guide, Steven also travels to other nearby waterways like Center Hill, Rock Island, Caney Fork, Collins River and Dale Hollow to pursue the Tennessee musky.

Tim Ives Musky Guide

Tim Ives found a passion for musky fishing at a very young age and has spent the last 25 years focusing on locating these toothy

creatures and putting

them in the net.

Tim has boated multipole 50+ inch and up to 45lb muskies.  He specializes in deep water trolling and fishing out

of fully rigged 19 foot Mako Center

Console Bay Boat.

Tim is known by locals as "the Mayor" of Minocqua as he's a friend to all and gets the inside scoop on all of the best bites in town.

Elmer Jensen

Elmer Jensen is a constant in the Wisconsin fishing region.  He has been fishing the area for

over 40 years with great success on the water.

He is a Army Veteran and a determined fisherman.  He is known in the North Woods as a great fisherman that can help you land a beast.

Elmer fishes Oneida and Vilas Counties and carries top notch gear to ensure you are prepared for a fun filled outing with a great Captain.

Doug Smith Musk Guide

Doug Smith

Doug has 30 years of guiding experience in  Northern Wisconsin area waters. He specializes on the deep clear water lakes. Suspended fishing, vertical jigging,  row trolling, and deeper water presentations are his favorite methods.

Doug has 36 muskies 50" or bigger boated in Oneida and Vilas counties and has worked at Rollie & Helen's Musky Shop since 1994.

​

He guides his clients on a 17' Tuffy and provides a safe and fully loaded adventure. 

Tracy Crail Musky Guide

Tracy Crail

Tracy Crail has 40 years of musky fishing experience and has fished throughout the United States and Canada, chasing his love and passion for muskies.

 

He's been named 2-time Iowa Musky Trail Team of the Year, and winning tournaments on Clear Lake, Brushy Creek, West Okoboji, and Spirit Lake. 

In 2012, he placed

2nd in the PMTT on Leech Lake.  He has landed 50"+ fish, with a personal best of 53” on West Okoboji.

Tracy will provide you with a skillful day of fishing on his home waters with the help of his 20' fully-loaded Ranger.

Josh Kreger

At 25, Josh has been chasing muskies for over half his life.  He enjoyed fishing so much as a young man that he decided to study fisheries and water resources at UW-Stevens Point. Josh was able to apply his field of study to become a more strategic and calculated fisherman.

 

After years of study and success Josh was inspired to chase his dream to become a professional fishing guide which he's now been lucky enough to do for the last 3 years!

Fred Palermo

Fred has lived in the North Woods for over 30 years, enjoying all that the outdoors has to offer.  He's an avid fisherman and outdoorsman, and loves to impart his fishing knowledge to those who want to try their hand at fishing in the North Woods.

As a familiar guide on the lakes of Oneida and Vilas Counties, Fred knows  his water ways and can put you on the spots of all the fish variations that Northern Wisconsin has to offer.

Matt Dassow

Northern Wisconsin Musky guide, Matt Dassow, has been focusing on muskies for the last decade and enjoys educating others in this exciting sport.  He lives year-round in Minocqua, Wisconsin and works as a full-time high school math teacher and fishing team head coach.  Matt's passion in life is teaching others, and he looks forward to helping new and experienced anglers to better understand the patterns of muskies, along with several other species.

 

Matt guides professionally on the prime waters of Vilas, Oneida, and Iron counties.  When booking a trip with Matt, he focuses on making sure his clients have an enjoyable experience, while being able to go home having learned new information about the sport.  He believes in putting all of the variables in your favor and for that reason, employs the latest in electronics, rods, reels, and lures, to help ensure you get as many opportunities as possible for your day out of the water.

Jamie Johnson Musky Guide

Jamie Johnson

Growing up on the water in northern Wisconsin, Jamie has been fishing since he could walk. From Snoopy pole smallmouths to giant, lifetime musky, Jamie has worked to hone his skills with an open mind and ability to solve the problem when it counts. Guiding since 2001, Jamie has worked with a vast array of clients from first timers to the avid angler that

didn’t bring their boat along.

​

“I truly enjoy having the chance not only to educate

but to also be the student myself.”

​

From the family fishing trip to one on one tournament pre- fishing, Jamie will work to solve the equation. Along with years of trophy musky success, Jamie is also on the walleye bite early to late and through the ice as well, landing 3 fish over 31” in the 2021-2022 season alone.  

​

Fishing from a 2021 Cestliner Fishhawk with full rear and front deck, latest electronics, tackle, custom built tackle you can take home with you, rods and reel, casting or trolling. All you need to bring is something to eat and drink, Jamie will take care of the rest.
